The New Testament is a collection of twenty-seven books. All of the books come from the first followers of Jesus. Some of the books take only a few minutes to read. But before you read the books in the New Testament, it helps to know what each book is about.

Here are a few words to help you to read the New Testament book of Hebrews. Hebrews is one of the books that we call the “general letters.” Paul did not write these books. Other leaders in the early *church wrote them. They wrote these letters to help encourage the people of God. The New Testament includes eight of those letters.
After you read what Hebrews is about, you will find some verses to read. These verses will help you understand the writer. You will see what was important to him.
The word “Hebrew” is another name for the Jews. The writer sent this letter to Jews who had believed in Jesus. No one knows who wrote Hebrews. The writer sent this letter to Christians who were in great difficulties. Some of them were thinking about going back to the religion of *Jews. The book encourages them to be loyal to Jesus. It also explains how many parts in the Old Testament were *signs. These *signs prepared the way for Christ, their *Messiah. Hebrews has one important message. Jesus is greater.

Church: A group of people who follow and believe in Jesus Christ. A meeting of those who believe in Jesus Christ.
Jews: People who are born from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their children. A person of the same big family and country as Jesus.
Messiah: The person whom God sent to save people from their *sin and be their king; a special servant of God; a name for Jesus Christ.
Sign: Acts which showed the power of God present in the world.
Sin: Evil deeds. When we do things against God and other people. When we do not obey God’s rules.
