The New Testament is a collection of twenty-seven books. All of the books come from the first followers of Jesus. Some of the books take only a few minutes to read. But before you read the books in the New Testament, it helps to know what each book is about.

Here are a few words to help you to read the New Testament book of 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy is one of the books that Paul wrote. Paul was a leader in the early *church. He wrote many letters to help encourage the people of God. Paul wrote more letters than any other of the New Testament writers. The New Testament includes thirteen of those letters.

As Paul got older, he chose some young men to help him in his work. One of those men was Timothy. The two letters to Timothy are a guide for a young leader of the church. Timothy is a leader in the church in a town called Ephesus. Paul wants to help Timothy be a good leader. He tells him how to choose good helpers. He warns him about things that can harm the *church.
